Elmo Jr. (born February 3, 1985) is one of the three principal characters in the Sesame Street franchise, alongside Big Bird and Cookie Monster, having been introduced in its 30th season. He serves as the central figure in the concluding 15-minute segments of the series, namely Elmo’s World and Elmo the Musical. Elmo is depicted as a three-and-a-half-year-old red monster, recognized for his distinctive use of second and third-person speech. He has a fondness for his pet goldfish, Dorothy, and enjoys being tickled. Additionally, he cherishes his family and friends and takes pleasure in educating others on various topics. Elmo features prominently in his own segment, Elmo’s World, and has transitioned from a supporting character from 1979 to 1984 to a central character from 1985 to the present. He is also the main character in the film “Elmo in Grouchland.” Initially, Elmo was performed by Kevin Clash, who utilized a falsetto voice to create the impression of a young boy. As of 2013, the character is currently voiced by Ryan Dillon.
